Taxation & Tax Returns
Tax done properly — from simple returns to complex structures.
If there’s one part of your finances that has to be right, it’s tax. Our registered tax agents (Tax Agent No. 26094138) prepare accurate returns, find every deduction you’re entitled to, and keep you compliant with the ATO — whether you’re an employee with one income statement or a company with complex structures.
Tax returns for every situation
We prepare and lodge returns for individuals, international students, working holiday makers, sole traders, partnerships, trusts, companies and self-managed super funds. Every return is prepared by a qualified accountant and checked before lodgement — not fed through a production line.
Because we’re registered tax agents, our clients generally get extended lodgement deadlines well beyond the standard 31 October cut-off, and we deal with the ATO on your behalf.
Tax advisory that pays for itself
Good tax advice isn’t about one return — it’s about structure. We advise on business structures, timing of income and deductions, small business CGT concessions, motor vehicle and home office claims, and the record-keeping systems that make next year easy. If the ATO comes asking questions, we handle the correspondence and represent you.
Plain language, 15 languages
Tax is confusing enough in your first language. Our team can explain your position in plain English — or in one of the 15 languages we speak across the firm. That’s a big part of why students, migrants and new arrivals have trusted SAMAF from day one.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a tax return cost with SAMAF?
It depends on the complexity of your return — a simple individual return costs far less than a company return with multiple schedules. Your first consultation is free, and we'll quote before we start so there are no surprises. Tax agent fees are generally tax-deductible in next year's return.
When is my 2025–26 tax return due?
If you lodge yourself, the deadline is 31 October 2026. If you're registered with us as your tax agent before 31 October, you'll usually qualify for extended lodgement deadlines — often as late as May 2027. Registering with an agent early keeps your options open.
Can you help if I haven't lodged for several years?
Yes — catching up overdue returns is something we do all the time, without judgement. We can access your ATO pre-fill data going back years, reconstruct missing records, and negotiate with the ATO on penalties and payment plans where needed.
I'm an international student — do I even need to lodge?
In most cases, yes. If you earned income in Australia above the tax-free threshold, or had tax withheld from wages, you'll generally need to lodge. Many students are owed refunds they never claim. We speak 15 languages and can walk you through it — see our international students page.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Your photo ID, bank details for your refund, and anything relevant to your income and deductions: income statements (we can pull these from the ATO), receipts for work expenses, private health cover details, and records for any investments, crypto or rental properties.
